After his recent back surgery, French national manager Didier Deschamps will not be present at the Euro 2024 draw in Hamburg on Saturday 2nd December.
As reported by L’Équipe, Deschamps has been suffering from back pain for the last few weeks and underwent surgery at the start of the week. In his absence, his assistant Guy Stéphan will take his place and represent France in Hamburg over the weekend.
Speaking about his absence, Deschamps said, “It is not with pleasure that I announce my absence from the draw… However, I will be following the draw attentively. Once we know who we are facing, we can prepare for our games.”
France reached the final of Euro 2016 with Didier Deschamps, where they lost to Portugal in extra time. Speaking in an interview with BeIn Sport, Deschamps identified England as one of the favourites for the upcoming tournament in Germany. Les Bleus narrowly beat England in the Qatar World Cup, however, he described the Three Lions as a “sold team.”
