France predicted XI v The Netherlands

Randal Kolo Muani looks set to start ahead of Olivier Giroud in Kylian Mbappé’s first match as France captain against The Netherlands on Friday night.

The choice between Eintracht Frankfurt’s Kolo Muani and AC Milan’s Giroud has been one of the most scrutinised, and it looks like the former is set to get the nod for France’s first Euro 2024 qualifier, which will take place at the Stade de France.

There are few surprises elsewhere. Ibrahima Konaté and Dayor Upamecano look like France’s first-choice centre-back painting for now, following Raphaël Varane’s surprise international retirement announcement. Mike Maignan’s role as Hugo Lloris’ successor has already been confirmed, and Jules Koundé will deputise at right-back, as he did during the World Cup in Qatar.

France’s new vice-captain, Antoine Griezmann, will play in midfield once more, alongside Aurélien Tchouaméni and Adrien Rabiot. Khéphren Thuram and Youssouf Fofana will be pushing the Juventus midfielder for a starting spot.
