France’s Selma Bacha stretchered off in Australia friendly ahead of Women’s World Cup

France Women’s team may have lost more than just a game this Friday. Les Bleues were playing a friendly against Australia in a packed 50.629-strong Marvel Stadium in Melbourne. Hervé Renard was defeated for the first time as France boss, with Manchester City striker Mary Fowler scoring the sole goal of the game past the hour mark. Les Bleues failed to find the back of the net for the first time since the appointment of the former Saudi Arabia manager.

France are bracing for bad news regarding the fitness of left-winger Selma Bacha (22). The Lyon forward was stretchered off deep into injury time after she had twisted her ankle after a challenge with Hayley Raso. With France set to kick off their World Cup group stage on Sunday July 23th against Jamaica, Bacha may pull out of the squad. “Her ankle twisted. We hope it’s not too serious“, said Renard to L’Equipe. It’s the worst news of the night. Let’s remain patient and wait for medical exams and the doctors’ diagnotis.
