Former striker Sonny Anderson faced the press today alongside Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas, in the wake of the Brazilian’s return to the club in an advisory role.
Anderson’s role, as clarified during the press conference, will see him give an external view on the development of the club, rather than being completely involved in the day-to-day running. This position could also see him give his input on the running of the youth academy.
The ex-forward, who spent four years with Les Gones between 1999 and 2003, winning two titles and scoring 94 goals, expressed his elation at “coming home” and explained that he wanted to work with the club to help it return to the highest level.
Anderson will continue in his role as a pundit for beIN Sports, and as a result will be at the Madrid derby this weekend rather than at Lyon’s trip to Angers. Just as the conference was ending, one journalist pointed out that Anderson could bring Karim Benzema back from the Spanish capital – to which Jean-Michel Aulas jokingly added that it would be his “first mission“.
