Jean-Victor Makengo nears Lorient move

Whether it is departures, arrivals, or just rumours, FC Lorient have been busy in the 2022/23 January transfer window. Their latest move is for the 24-year-old Udinese midfielder Jean-Victor Makengo, with whom an agreement is almost complete, according to a report from Foot Mercato.

The Frenchman has played in the Italian top flight since October 2020, where he has appeared for I Friulani on 66 occasions in the league (one goal, four assists). Foot Mercato report that Makengo is close to a return to France, where he previously played for SM Caen, OGC Nice, and Toulouse FC. The fee, including bonuses, could see Lorient pay more than €10m. His move to Udinese from Nice was around €3.5m in 2020.

Lorient recently lost Dango Ouattara to AFC Bournemouth, and a move away from Brittany for Terem Moffi is not yet off the cards. Should Lorient be successful in acquiring Makengo, then the loss of two promising forward players may sting less. Lorient are also looking to Paris for another midfield option in the shape of 18-year-old Ayman Kari.
