Former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann is already considering which staff members he would bring in case PSG are to appoint him as head coach, according to a report from L’Equipe. Foot Mercato broke the news that the young German coach was the club’s owners’ choice to replace Christophe Galtier in the Parc des Princes’ dugout. The outlet added that 1998 World Cup winner Thierry Henry would be part of Nagelsmann’s staff as an assistant coach.
L’Équipe report that the former Leipzig coach still has not given any final agreement to take over Les Parisiens for next season, but talks are said to be well advanced. The outlet adds that Nagelsmann and Henry have already had discussions over a potential working relationship. Nagelsmann views Henry as an asset given his knowledge of French football and culture. The young German would be the tactical mastermind whilst the legendary Arsenal striker would have more of a bent towards man management. A meeting is due to occur between Henry and Nagelsmann during this coming week.
Henry’s spells as head coach at Monaco and Montreal were underwhelming at best. However, his stint as Belgium’s assistant coach has been lauded. The 2009 Champions League winner with Barcelona still inspires tremendous respect and is greatly valued by PSG frontman Kylian Mbappé (24). It remains to be seen whether Nagelsmann would succeed in adapting to Paris Saint-Germain, given his shortcomings at Bayern, as well as if he could achieve an efficient partnership with Sporting Advisor Luís Campos. L’Équipe mention that Nagelsmann is still under contract with the Bavarian giants, who owe him an €8m to €9m salary per year until he joins another club.
