Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema is not expected to take part in the tribute planned for France’s recently-retired international players, according to a report from Téléfoot. France’s national team boss Didier Deschamps has revealed that Hugo Lloris, Steve Mandanda, Raphaël Varane, Blaise Matuidi and Benzema had all been invited to Les Bleus’ match against the Netherlands on Friday, to pay tribute to their international careers. France host the Ronald Koeman-led Dutch side at the Stade de France to kick off their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign.
But it has sincetranspired that Benzema, amid the controversy surrounding his feud with Deschamps over his injury sustained at the 2022 World Cup, won’t take part in the tribute. The 35-year-old Real Madrid striker made two separate posts on Instagram aimed at Deschamps following his interview with Le Parisien : “What audacity” finished with a clown emoji and “That Didier. Goodnight.” Benzema then said that he would explain himself “to the people.”
