Kasper Schmeichel to sign for Anderlecht

Foot Mercato are reporting that Denmark international goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel (36) is set to join Belgian Pro League side Anderlecht.

The former Leicester City FC goalkeeper is a free agent after mutually terminating his contract with OGC Nice. As exclusively revealed on Friday by Get French Football News, the INEOS-owned Ligue 1 side were keen to offload the 2016 Premier League champion with the Foxes. The Danish shot-stopper had lost his starting spot at Nice to Polish goalkeeper Marcin Bulka. The son of legendary Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel played 46 games in total with Les Aiglons.

Schmeichel wasted little time in getting his career back on track. He will join RSC Anderlecht on a one-year deal and provide competition for Maxime Dupé, who joined Les Mauves from Ligue 1 side Toulouse. Anderlecht are currently second in the league after a strong start to the campaign. They will not play in any European competition this season.
