Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappé (24) sustained a left ankle injury this Sunday during Le Classique against Ligue 1 arch-rivals Olympique de Marseille. The league’s current best goalscorer with seven strikes to his name was tripped near the penalty box by Marseille’s Argentine centre-back Leonardo Balerdi. Moroccan right-back Achraf Hakimi converted the following free-kick with a stunning strike, opening the scoring for PSG. Several minutes later, Mbappé left the Parc des Princes pitch to receive treatment on his left ankle.
Mbappé resumed playing and looked like he had shaken off the pain. But on the half-hour mark, he kicked the ball out of play after asking for his substitution to the PSG dugout. The 24-year-old walked off the pitch and went down to the PSG dressing room, accompanied by Les Parisiens’ 1st team medical doctor Quentin Vincent. Portuguese centre-forward Gonçalo Ramos replaced the injured Mbappé.
Mbappé’s left ankle injury was PSG’s only negative of their first half against Marseille. Luis Enrique’s side went 2-0 up after Randal Kolo Muani had finally scored his first goal with Les Parisiens.
