Kylian Mbappé hopes to fulfil his dream of playing the 2024 Paris Olympic Games

Free-scoring PSG forward Kylian Mbappé (24) has never hidden the fact that he would love to play in football tournament at the Olympics, especially during the upcoming 2024 Paris Games, because featuring in the Olympics held in his home city is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

The squad registration rules for the football portion of the Olympics state that anyone under the age of 23 can play in the tournament but that, additionally, each nation can then call up up to three players aged 23 or above. Speaking to Tout le Sport on Wednesday, Mbappé has reiterated he would like to play the Paris 2024 Games. “I don’t know if I’ll be there. But, in any case, I hope to be there. Everyone knows that I’ve always dreamed of playing the Olympic Games.”

However, there’s a catch, the 2024 Paris Olympic Games are due to be held from July 26 to August 11, in the middle of his club’s pre-season. Besides, it is expected that Mbappé will feature in the Germany-hosted Euro 2024 tournament, from June 14 to July 14. The European Championship is the only competition that eludes Didier Deschamps’ France team, having won the 2018 World Cup and the 2021 Nations League.

With a summer schedule this tightly packed, it would not be a surprise if Mbappé’s club were to not allow him to feature in the Games. “It doesn’t depend on me. There are a lot of factors that come into play and we will have to study them all. I will not force to do them [the Games] either. They’re not in the FIFA calendar. If people do not want me to do them, that will mean that I must not do them.”
