Having consistently topped popularity polls among French football fans and the general public in the last few years, Kylian Mbappé’s image in his home country now appears to be taking a turn for the worse.
According to the results of a poll carried out by Odoxa, as reported by RMC Sport, 70% of French people find the national team captain to be likeable, down from 80% in 2019.
The starkest difference in the space of four years can be found in the percentage of respondents who see the Paris Saint-Germain forward as “humble” – 45% this year, compared to 66% previously. 57% see the 24-year-old as “charismatic“, a figure which was previously at 66%.
Nevertheless, the majority of Mbappé’s compatriots still have a positive view of him – 63%. He remains far behind other sporting personalities, though such as Olympic judo champion Teddy Riner (89%) and former NBA star Tony Parker (87%).
