Lille have announced this afternoon that Portuguese defender Tiago Djaló has suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury, which brings his season to an end.
The 22-year-old was forced off after just 13 minutes in the Derby du Nord clash against Lens, in which Les Dogues came back in the second half to claim a draw away from home. Djaló has since undergone tests which have revealed the nature and the severity of the injury, which will require an operation. The setback, the first major injury of his career, could also see him out of action for part of the the beginning of the 2023/24 campaign.
The defender has been an important part of Paulo Fonseca’s set-up this season, appearing in all but one of the team’s 26 league games this season and chipping in with two goals of his own. Overall, he has made just over a century of appearances since joining from Milan in 2019.
