RMC Sport report this afternoon that talks between Lionel Messi and Paris Saint-Germain over a contract extension past the end of the current season are still ongoing, although there are various details left to work out.
There has been an agreement in principle in place for the last few weeks, but the length of the new contract, as well as the salary, have yet to be worked out. The World Cup winner wants to renew on conditions not too dissimilar to those of Kylian Mbappé, but PSG are unwilling to give in to all of his demands.
Messi is back to his best on the pitch this season, after a difficult first year in the French capital – he now has 13 goals and 13 assists in Ligue 1 so far. However, not everyone at the club is convinced about keeping him on board, given some want to dismantle the star attacking trident from next season to build around Mbappé. In any case, Inter Miami remain an option for the former Barcelona man, with the MLS pushing to bring the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner across the pond.
