In an interview, transcribed by Fabrizio Romano, Lionel Messi’s (35) father, Jorge Messi, has said that the now-former Paris Saint-Germain forward wants to rejoin Barcelona.
Messi left Barcelona to move to PSG in the summer of 2021. The Argentinian World Champion signed a two-year deal with Les Parisiens, but prior to the club’s final match of the season against Clermont Foot on Saturday, PSG announced that Messi’s deal wouldn’t be extended.
As a result, Messi will be a free agent, and two years after bidding farewell to the Camp Nou, a return could now be on the cards, despite the deal potentially being financially complex. Messi’s father, Jorge, met with Barcelona President Joan Laporta earlier today and has opened up the possibility of a transfer to the Catalan club.
“Leo wants to return to Barcelona and I’d love to see him back in Barça. Barça move is an option for sure,” he said. Whilst a return to Barcelona seemingly remains a priority for Messi, Foot Mercato reported last week that the player’s entourage had already agreed a record-breaking contract with the Saudi Arabian top-flight. The Gulf State are convinced that Barcelona don’t have the financial means to pull off the deal.
