Lionel Messi’s two-week suspension lifted after offering apology to PSG

Lionel Messi’s two-week suspension is effectively lifted, according to reports from RMC Sport and Canal+. The PSG forward made an early return to training this Monday, as announced by the club. The Argentine trained individually at the Camp des Loges, PSG’s training ground, because his teammates were given the day off following their 3-1 away win at Troyes. The 35-year-old had skipped last Monday’s training session – which was not cancelled as a result of the defeat to Lorient the previous day – in favour of his commitments as Saudi Arabia’s tourism ambassador. The suspension reportedly covered training and matchdays, and would see his pay docked for the full two weeks.

According to RMC Sport, Messi’s apology to PSG last week was well received by the club’s hierarchy. It is therefore expected that the 7-time Ballon d’Or winner will train with his PSG teammates tomorrow. Canal+ report that Messi will even be available to play against Ajaccio for Ligue 1 gameweek 35 on Saturday. Les Parisiens have a six-point lead over second-placed Lens at the top of the Ligue 1 standings. However, despite his early return to the training ground, Messi is still set to leave PSG when his contract expires next month. Barcelona, Inter Miami and Al-Hilal have targeted the 2022 World Cup winner.
