FIFA agent Marco Kirdemir has told Marca that Liverpool could rival Real Madrid for the signing of Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappé (24) this summer.
Mbappé’s future at PSG was thrown into doubt when he sent a letter to the club’s hierarchy, informing them that he won’t trigger the one-year extension in his contract. Consequently, the France captain could be available on a free next summer. Les Parisiens, unwilling to lose such a valuable asset for nothing, have therefore decided to sell Mbappé this summer, according to Foot Mercato. The club’s president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi is “very frustrated” with Mbappé’s decision not to extend, says Kirdemir.
As reported by multiple sources, including L’Équipe, in the case of a departure this summer, Real Madrid are the Frenchman’s most likely destination. However, according to Kirdemir, the La Liga club could face competition from a Premier League side. In an interview, transcribed by RMC Sport, the FIFA agent cited Liverpool as a potential rival for Mbappé’s signature.
“Liverpool are competing with Real Madrid and want to pay a fortune for Mbappé,” he said. According to Kirdemir, Mbappé could attract an offer of up to €300m, which would be a record transfer fee.
Despite the agent’s comments, and despite a long-standing interest in Mbappé, Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp told The Times in May that the Premier League club were out of the running for the France international.
