Lucas Hernandez set to start at centre-back instead of William Saliba for France against Ireland

L’Equipe are reporting that France national team boss Didier Deschamps would be more inclined to field Lucas Hernandez (27) rather than William Saliba (22) at centre-back when Les Bleus take on Ireland tomorrow night at Paris’ Parc des Princes.

The outlet understood this morning though that the Arsenal man would be the favorite to replace the injured Ibrahima Konaté alongside Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano against the Boys in Green. However, L’Equipe now reports that Deschamps is considering the prospect of playing the versatile PSG defender as a centre-back instead of the Saint-Etienne youth product.

Hernandez was expected to play as a left-back against Ireland tomorrow, the post he held for Les Parisiens since the start of the Ligue 1 season. However, Deschamps would reportedly be keen to unleash the more attacking of the Hernandez brothers, AC Milan’s Théo (25), against Ireland, who are expected to sit deep against Les Bleus.

France take on Ireland tomorrow at the Parc des Princes as part of their campaign to qualify for the Euro 2024. On September 12, Les Bleus will face Germany for a friendly game at Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park.
