A year on from leaving Marseille for Southampton, Croatian defender Duje Ćaleta-Car could be set for a swift return to France, after the Saints’ relegation from the Premier League last season after finishing bottom of the table.
According to Foot Mercato, Les Gones’ new Head of Recruitment, Matthieu Louis-Jean, is looking to bring in an experienced central defender as part of the club’s summer transfer push. The Croatian international fits the profile that manager Laurent Blanc has asked for, and the player could be tempted by the prospect of playing alongside compatriot Dejan Lovren.
The now-Championship side are reportedly asking for €10m to let go of Ćaleta-Car, who played at Marseille for four seasons, during which he made 130 appearances.
Another potential move – especially should Castello Lukeba leave for RB Leipzig – would involve Samuel Umtiti returning to his formative club, although Lyon are keeping their options open for the time being.
