Lyon’s Houssem Aouar derides report of Frankfurt move

Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Houssem Aouar (24) has taken to Twitter to deride reports of a summer move to German side Eintracht Frankfurt.

Aouar almost left his formative club in the summer, but having decided to stay, he has played a peripheral role. In all competitions, he has made 10 appearances, scoring once and registering one assist. Starts have been very hard to come by for a player that was once linked with Europe’s elite.

The Lyon midfielder reportedly had offers to leave the Groupama stadium in January, but ultimately remained at the club. Notably, Aouar turned down a free transfer to AS Roma, according to RMC Sport. There is a good chance that he will therefore leave summer on a free transfer in the summer.

On Wednesday, German outlet Sport1 reported that Aouar was set for a move to Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer. The reported deal, which according to Sport1 wasn’t completed, would have seen Aouar earn €250,000 a month and a €5 million signing bonus.

However, in light of the report, Aouar chose to reply on social media, rejecting reports of an agreement with the Bundesliga side. “So some people know where I’ll be playing next season before me… they’re good! #notveryserious #imusedtoit,” said the one-time French international on Twitter.
