RMC Sport report this afternoon that Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar has turned down a prospective move to Roma, despite an agreement being in place between the clubs for a free transfer this month.
José Mourinho is a fan of the one-time French international and wanted to bring him to the Italian capital, but the 24-year-old has ostensibly rejected the proposal, with the midfielder unclear on the outlines of the Roma project.
As a result, Aouar will stay at his formative club for the remainder of the campaign, with his contract expiring in June. Having been close to the exit door this summer, midfielder has somewhat fallen out of favour at Lyon, and has only appeared eight times in the league this season, scoring once. He had been a regular with Les Gones since his breakout year in 2017, featuring a total of 224 times for the club and notably impressing in their 2020 Champions League campaign.
