Malang Sarr to return to Chelsea after Monaco loan

According to RMC SportMalang Sarr (24) is set to return to parent club Chelsea upon the completion of his season-long loan at AS Monaco.

Sarr joined on a season-long loan with an obligation to make the move permanent in the case of clauses being met, which are thought to be linked to a number of appearances. However, the former OGC Nice centre-back has failed to ever truly establish himself in Monaco’s backline.

His route to the starting lineup was barred by now-Chelsea centre-back Benoît Badiashile until January and has since been blocked by Guillermo Maripán, with Philippe Clement settling on a four-man defence. Across the entire season, the Frenchman has made just 17 appearances for Les Monégasques, and there is a possibility of him not featuring again for the Principality club.

The player is currently injured, and wasn’t present in today’s training session at the club’s Performance Centre in La Turbie, Responding to Get French Football News’ Luke Entwistle, Clement said that Sarr was “still hurting a bit” last week. No return date has been given, all the while, the end of the season draws nearer.
