Marcelo Gallardo “tempted” by Marseille job

Foot Mercato are reporting that Marcelo Gallardo is “tempted” by the Olympique de Marseille job, but would need guarantees before replacing Igor Tudor in the dugout at the Vélodrome.

Tudor left Marseille after just one season at the end of the season, having guided the club to a third-place finish in Ligue 1. Les Phocéens, for a second consecutive summer, are therefore in the market for a new manager. As reported by Get French Football Newsformer Athletic Bilbao manager Marcelino features on that list, but so do Gallardo and Fabio Grosso.

Gallardo is high on Pablo Longoria’s list and has the advantage of being on the market after leaving River Plate. Marseille have held talks with the Argentinian manager, and whilst he would be tempted to join Marseille, he requires guarantees. Gallardo wants to bring his own technical staff, which would represent additional costs and further negotiations.

Grosso is also becoming a standout candidate, according to Foot Mercato, and the Italian manager recently met with the hierarchy of his current club, Frosinone, to discuss the future. No definitive decision was taken. Grosso wouldn’t be against a further year at the Italian club, but he is appreciated by Javier Ribalta at Marseille. His arrival would seemingly be less complicated than that of Gallardo, who is making more demands to join Les Phocéens.
