Marcus Thuram to remain at Borussia Mönchengladbach, despite Chelsea interest

Foot Mercato are reporting that Marcus Thuram (25) is set to remain at Borussia Mönchengldbach this January, despite interest from Chelsea.

As revealed by Foot Mercato earlier this month, Chelsea had reached out to the French international about a move to this month. The Mönchengladbach played a starring role for France in the recent Qatar World Cup, whilst he is also the third-top scorer in the Bundesliga this season with 10 goals.

Thuram’s contract expires this summer, ad the player has been mulling over whether to remain at Mönchengladbach and leave on a free in the summer or leave this January for a fee. The former EA Guingamp player has now made his decision, according to Foot Mercato.

Thuram has declined Chelsea’s advances, for now, and will remain in Germany to see out the remainder of his contract. He will therefore leave the club for free in June when Chelsea will once again try to convince to Frenchman to come to Stamford Bridge. However, given that he will be a free agent, it is expected that the competition for his signature will be more fierce. Thuram himself is yet to decide where his future lies.
