Marseille to sign Atalanta’s Ruslan Malinovskyi for half the initial asking price

Ukrainian international, Ruslan Malinovskyi, is expected to join Marseille today pending a medical examination in the coming hours, according to L’Équipe. An agreement has been reached with Italian side Atalanta for a six-month loan, with a mandatory purchase option.

The 29-year-old, under contract until 2024 with the Serie A club, had the opportunity to sign for the Les Olympiens last summer, but the French side could not meet Atalanta’s high demands of between €20m and €25m. OM abandoned their approach for the Ukrainian in favour of signing Amine Harit, who had been at the club on loan during the previous season. But Harit, who was set to join Morocco during their dazzling run at the World Cup, suffered a disastrous season-ending injury just one week before the Atlas Lions were scheduled to fly to Doha.

Somewhat ironically, last season’s transfer target Malinovskyi now looks set to take up the attacking position left vacant by the injured Harit. OM’s mandatory purchase option is reportedly set at €10m plus €3m in potential bonuses, depending on whether the club qualify for next season’s Champions League campaign.
