Michel Der Zakarian returns to coaching with his former club Montpellier

It did not take long for Michel Der Zakarian to make his return to not only coaching but, his former club, Montpellier. After his departure from Brest and the dismissal of Romain Pitau, the 59-year-old is reportedly set to return to the club where he made 233 appearances as a player.

While he was unsuccessful with Brest he may actually be the type of coach to navigate Montpellier through troubled waters. He has built a track record of hard work and developing his young talent. The Mediterranean club has been taking more goals than they have been scoring. Der Zakarian’s defensive focus may bring some structure and life into the club which is now only two points outside of the relegation zone.

Fittingly enough the coach’s first match back in charge may be against the club he just left, Brest. The two clubs are even in terms of points on the table. A win at home would not only please the fans but the club back on the right track.
