Mike Maignan and Théo Hernandez haven’t reacted well to Paolo Maldini’s AC Milan departure

Foot Mercato journalist Sébastien Denis is reporting that AC Milan’s French contingent, consisting of Mike Maignan (27) and Théo Hernandez (25), haven’t reacted well to Paolo Maldini’s departure.

Maldini’s departure was envisaged for 2024, but in a shock, sudden decision the former Italian international has seen his stay at the San Siro cut short. His departure has been described by Denis as a “catastrophe,” and it throws into question the futures of three key players in AC Milan’s squad.

Maignan and Hernandez, both of whom are close to Maldini, have reacted badly to the Italian’s departure, as has former Lille OSC forward Rafael Leão. In Italy, La Repubblica are reporting that Hernandez is considering his future at the Serie A side, whilst Maignan, who is garnering interest, is now hesitant to sign a contract renewal at the club. Following the international retirement of Hugo Lloris, Maignan has inherited the number one jersey with Les Bleus.
