Montpellier have this afternoon announced that manager Romain Pitau, along with his assistants Pascal Baills and Frédéric Mendy, have been suspended ahead of their likely dismissal.
The former midfielder, who won the title with MHSC in 2012, was initially named interim manager in October after the sacking of Olivier Dall’Oglio, before being confirmed by the club’s management as full-time manager at the end of the season.
The team, though, have only won once since the turn of the year, and were notably beaten by fellow relegation battlers Strasbourg this weekend, even after the Alsatians were down to ten men for most of the game. The run has also included a 6-1 loss to Nice as well as a 3-0 defeat to Nantes, at home. La Paillade were also knocked out of the Coupe de France at the start of January by Ligue 2 outfit Pau. France Bleu report that the team’s defensive issues and Pitau’s strained relationship with several members of his squad pushed the club to act, after seven defeats in eleven games.
