Montpellier President on Elye Wahi’s future: “We know he likes Arsenal a lot.”

Montpellier President Laurent Nicollin has seemed to reveal Elye Wahi’s (20) preference for his next move. The Frenchman has been linked with clubs in Ligue 1 and across Europe, but Nicollin has revealed that the player “likes Arsenal a lot.”

Wahi has had a breakthrough season with Montpellier and is expected to leave the Ligue 1 club this summer. In 32 games in the French top flight, Wahi has 17 goals and six assists. In late May, Foot Mercato revealed that Arsenal were in “pole position,” to sign the forward, although they notably face competition from AS Monaco. Since the report, Monaco have missed out on European football, potentially decreasing the chances of a summer move to the Principality club.

In an interview with 100% PailladeMontpellier’s president has now revealed that Wahi’s agent is in discussion with “four or five big clubs” without revealing the identity of the suitors. Nicollin then added, “We know that he likes Arsenal a lot.” Should Wahi make the move, he wouldn’t be the first to trade the Mosson for the Emirates after Olivier Giroud made the same journey back in 2012.
