According to The Times Newcastle United are making an effort in the dying hours of the transfer window to secure a season-long loan move for Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris (36).
The former captain of Les Bleus has been seeking to leave Tottenham during the summer after losing his starting place under new manager Ange Postecoglou. Lloris had been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia in the previous month, and had a move to Lazio fall through earlier this month.
The approach from Eddie Howe’s side was unexpected, and the Frenchman has so far reportedly turned down a move to Newcastle.
The move would have seen the 2018 World Cup winner spend the rest of the season with Newcastle, who were drawn yesterday in the same Champions League group as Paris Saint-Germain, without a loan fee.
The Times also report that if Lloris does not find a club this summer, there is a possibility that he could terminate his contract at Spurs by mutual consent.
