Neymar’s PSG medical in 2017 revealed he should have undergone surgery on his right foot

PSG forward Neymar (31) is out for the season as the Brazilian will undergo surgery to repair ligament damage in his right ankle, following a recent injury sustained on February 20. The surgery will take place at the ASPETAR hospital in Doha in the coming days, and a recovery period of three to four months is expected before he can return to full training. Since his arrival at PSG for a record-breaking €222m transfer from Barcelona, Neymar has suffered countless injuries to his ankles and feet.

According to a report from L’Equipe, Neymar has missed a staggering 43% of PSG games since his move in the French capital. The outlet adds that such setbacks could have been avoided. His PSG medical in 2017 has revealed that his right foot was “in bad shape” with immediate surgery the wisest outcome possible. But such a decision has been discarded, given Neymar’s new status as the world’s most expensive player ever. Several podiatrists contacted by L’Equipe believe that the growing list of Neymar’s injuries is down to that decision to not undergo surgery sooner.
