OGC Nice sit on top of Ligue 1 after Matchday 11 and speaking after Les Aiglons’ latest victory, Francesco Farioli has revealed that the squad look at the table post-match to “get a thrill.”
Farioli, in his debut season in Ligue 1, is undefeated. Nice are the only side in Europe’s top five leagues not to have lost a single match so far this season, and that streak was extended at home to Stade Rennais on Sunday night. Jérémie Boga opened the scoring before Youssouf Ndayishimiye was shown red midway through the second half. However, Nice adapted and continued to dictate the play before Rennes’ Warmed Omari was shown a red to even things up. Nice then scored from the resulting free-kick to secure the 2-0 victory that relegates Paris Saint-Germain to second place.
Whilst Farioli acknowledges that the season is long, he revealed that the team look at the table at the end of matches. “In our journey this season, we look at the table one minute after the match to get a thrill. But we know that the season is long and we know the quality of our rivals for the European places. Rennes are a really top-level team and they had the means to cause us problems. To have put in such a performance against such a dangerous team is extraordinary. We need to savour this evening,” said the Italian manager in a post-match press conference, transcribed by L’Équipe.
