Clermont Foot, one of the most in-form teams in Ligue 1 right now, have moved quickly to seal the signing of Bilal Boutobba (24). According to a report from L’Équipe, one of the most sought-after free agents from Ligue 2 is set to undergo a medical with the Auvergne side. Clermont are a surprise 9th-placed side in Ligue 1 following a run of 6 league wins in 7 games. Clermont head coach Pascal Gastien has also been nominated for Ligue 1 coach of the year.
Niort attacking midfielder Boutobba is expected to put pen to paper on a three-year deal with Clermont. The Franco-Algerian playmaker has registered 17 goals and 11 assists in his last two campaigns with Les Chamois in the French 2nd division. Niort are last-placed in Ligue 2 and will be relegated in National 1, the French 3rd division.
Clermont spent just €2.3m in transfer fees over the course of the 2022/23 campaign and are developing a reputation from being especially thrifty in the market.
