Strasbourg have officially announced the loan signing of Brazilian forward Ângelo Gabriel on a season-long loan from Chelsea. The 18-year-old’s move to the Stade de la Meinau spells the first loan move between the two clubs since the Alsace club were purchased by Blue-Co.
Chelsea recently signed the versatile forward from Santos for a fee of €15m and always planned to send him to Strasbourg, so he could develop in Ligue 1. Ângelo might not be the last player to make the switch from Stamford Bridge to the Stade de la Meinau this season, with the Blues planning to send Deivid Washington on loan to the Racing club if they manage to beat Monaco to his signature.
Upon completing his loan move to Strasbourg, the former Santos winger said, “I am very motivated by this challenge and my goal is to help the team get to the top! I am also happy to discover French football, which is one of the most famous leagues in the world, with a style of play that I like and which suits me well. I can’t wait for it to start!“.
The Brazilian is the latest player to arrive as part of Strasbourg’s ambitious recruitment drive this summer with the club splashing the cash under new ownership. Ângelo is the third recruit to be confirmed on the same day after they also confirmed the captures of Junior Mwanga and Dilane Bakwa from Bordeaux.
