Chelsea FC have released a short medical statement regarding Christopher Nkunku (25). The 25-year-old France international will be out for “an extended period“, according to the West London side.
The former PSG youth product underwent surgery on his left knee. The former RB Leipzig striker was forced off during Chelsea’s final pre-season friendly game against Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund last Thursday. The game was held up at Chicago’s Soldier Field. The pitch was reportedly in bad shape.
The Guardian fears that Nkunku has suffered meniscus damage. Nkunku’s extended spell on the sidelines is a major blow for Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea side. The France international has impressed for RB Leipzig during the last two campaigns in the Bundesliga. His form earned him a €60m move to the Blues. Chelsea, who will kick off their Premier League campaign at home against Liverpool on Sunday, are also set to be without Wesley Fofana for several months. The France international has suffered an ACL injury.
