Lyon have this morning announced the sale of French youth international right-back Malo Gusto to Chelsea, with the 19-year-old returning to his formative club on a loan deal until the end of the season.
The Premier League side have spent a fee of €35m to secure the defender’s services starting from next season, a figure that includes €5m in add-ons. The Blues will pay the fee in instalments over the course of Gusto’s contract in West London. He becomes the second French prospect to make the move across the Channel this winter, after Benoît Badiashile from Monaco.
Gusto leaves French football having made 54 appearances for his hometown club’s senior squad, having broken into the team last year and taken Léo Dubois’ spot in the starting lineup. He made 30 Ligue 1 appearances last year, registering four assists in that time, and continued to be a regular into the new season, starting the majority of games under Peter Bosz and then Laurent Blanc.
