Official | Lyon sign Jake O’Brien from Crystal Palace

Olympique Lyonnais have officially announced the signing of Irish defender Jake O’Brien from Crystal Palace. The 21-year-old has signed a deal at the Groupama Stadium lasting until 2027.

Lyon’s owner John Textor is a minority shareholder in Crystal Palace and this is the first transfer between OL and the Premier League club since Les Gones were brought into the ownership of Eagle Football Group. The Ireland U21 international has cost the Rhone club a reported fee of £1m.

Jake O’Brien failed to make a senior appearance during his time at Selhurst Park but did spend three spells away from the club. The centre-back had loan spells with Cork City, Swindon Town and Eagle Football-owned RWD Molenbeek. He made 30 appearances last season with the latter club, chipping in with three goals. O’Brien arrives at a good time for Lyon, following the departure of Castello Lukeba to RB Leipzig
