Official | Matthieu Louis-Jean appointed Lyon’s new Head of Recruitment amid reshuffle

Lyon’s reshuffle at management level has taken another step, following last year’s takeover by John Textor’s Eagle Football. The club has announced the appointments of Matthieu Louis-Jean as head of recruitment and of Martin Buchheit as head of performance. Louis-Jean was previously Marseille’s head scout. The former centre-back was also employed by top English clubs in other scouting roles. He worked for Liverpool’s Academy, Nottingham Forest, Brighton and Hove Albion, West Bromwich City and Bristol City. Louis-Jean also held the post of Manchester United’s senior scout for French football.

His appointment all but confirms the departure of former Liverpool midfielder Bruno Cheyrou, who was until now Lyon’s head of recruitment. According to the club, Louis-Jean will spearhead “a completely redesigned cell that will strengthen its use of data, video and artificial intelligence“. OL add that Vincent Ponsot retain his post as Lyon’s General Director of Football.

Les Gones have also announced the appointment of Martin Buchheit as the club’s head of performance. Buchheit previously held this post at PSG (2014-2020) and Lille (2021-2023). “Martin Buchheit will be responsible for supervising and coordinating, with the technical and medical staff, physical preparation, sports science, nutrition and development research“, writes the club. Current Lyon boss Laurent Blanc had already worked with Buchheit during his spell at Paris Saint-Germain. “We are happy and proud to welcome Matthieu Louis-Jean and Martin Buchheit to Olympique Lyonnais. Their arrival marks the first steps in our sporting project to regain our place in Europe, and keep our promises to our passionate supporters”, adds club president John Textor.
