Official | Mouctar Diakhaby extends Valencia contract

French defender Mouctar Diakhaby has extended his contract on the Mediterranean coast with La Liga’s Valencia CF. The 26-year-old, who was sold to Los che in 2018 from Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais, will stay in Spain until 2027.

At Valencia, he has amassed 109 league appearances, most of which he has started. Despite a suspension and a hamstring injury, he has nonetheless started most of Valencia’s league games this season. Across his five seasons in the Spanish top flight, he has registered 30 clean sheets. During this time, he also scored five goals and provided one assist.

He began his senior career in Lyon’s B side, before progressing to the first team in 2016 at the age of 19. As a Lyon player, he accrued 55 appearances across all competitions, in which he scored seven and provided two assists. His final season at Lyon (2017/18), however, was marked by intermittent game time – he appeared just 12 times in a season that saw Lyon take third place in the French top flight.
