One of the Ligue 1’s most consistent strikers in the last few years is officially changing clubs this summer. 6 months after the start of his loan spell at FC Nantes, Andy Delort will be signing permanently for Les Canaris. His departure was confirmed in a statement by his previous club, OGC Nice.
18 months after transferring to the Riviera, Delort leaves Les Aiglons to continue in the west of France. With Nantes having confirmed their place in Ligue 1 for next season, his option to buy was automatically triggered for him to stay at La Beaujoire.
A very prominent striker especially when associated with his partner in crime, Gaëtan Laborde, when they played for Montpellier, Delort’s career has changed since leaving his hometown. He managed 25 goals in 55 goals for Nice, collecting the club’s player of the season last year. However, his relationship with his managers and the owners worsened of late and a move away was inevitable.
Since joining Nantes, Delort has seen ups and downs. He scored his only two goals for the club against RC Lens in a 2-1 win in the quarter finals of the Coupe de France, before appearing in both the semi-finals against Lyon and the heavy loss against Toulouse in the final. He was also on the pitch for the 3-0 loss to Juventus at home in the Europa League last 16. He will hope to improve on his tally of nine goals next season.
