Ousmane Dembélé (26) has officially signed for PSG, the Ligue 1 champions have announced this Saturday. The now-former Barcelona winger has put pen to paper over a five-year deal with Les Parisiens after undergoing his medical on Thursday.
Dembélé’s signing was a matter of days as soon as Les Parisiens informed their Barcelona counterparts that they would trigger his €50m release clause before its expiration on July 31st.
As for Dembélé, the France international is making a sensational return to Ligue 1 after his breakout years at Stade Rennais that earned him a €35m move to Borussia Dortmund in 2016. The following year, Barcelona used a big chunk of Neymar’s €222m transfer fee to Les Parisiens to sign the Vernon-born winger. The 2018 World Cup winner with France went on to feature 185 times with the Blaugranas, logging 40 goals and 43 assists – although his six-year stint in Spain was hampered by numerous injuries.
Dembélé is expected to become the starting right-winger in PSG head coach Luis Enrique’s preferred 4-3-3 formation – although he can also fill in on the opposite wing. With Neymar set to leave the French capital and Kylian Mbappé expected to sit out the entire season, Dembélé’s arrival is a more-than-welcome shot in the arm for the Spaniard’s attacking options.
