French striker Yaya Sanogo (30) has joined Armenian side Urartu FC for a six-month deal. The 2013 U20 World Cup winner, playing with the likes of Paul Pogba, Jordan Veretout, Alphonse Areola or Florian Thauvin, was a free agent since a six-month stint at Championship side Huddersfield eighteen months ago. Sanogo signed for Arsenal in 2013 after having caught the eye of many top French clubs for his performances with Auxerre.

With Arsène Wenger’s Gunners, he never lived up to the expectations and was loaned to Crystal Palace, Ajax and Charlton. In 2017, Sanogo signed a three-year deal with Toulouse on a free transfer. He found some of his groove back and scored 16 goals in 72 games played. He signed as a free agent for the Terriers for a six-month deal but he failed to find the net in nine games played. Sanogo then returned to Toulouse, where he trained with the reserves squad to stay fit and game-ready. Last fall, he failed a trial with newly-promoted Ligue 2 side Stade Lavallois and was bound for another full season on the fringe, until Armenian side Urartu FC came knocking.
