After sustaining a thigh injury on his first start since his return Juventus on Sunday against Cremonese, Paul Pogba is expected to miss out on a return with France’s national team, according to a report from L’Équipe. The former Manchester United man was targeting a call-up with Les Bleus for the June international break. Les Bleus will travel to Gibraltar on June 16 and host Greece three days later in their campaign to qualify for Euro 2024. The European Championship is the only international trophy that eludes Pogba. But the midfielder’s latest setback is expected to postpone his return to the Didier Deschamps-led side.
Juventus’ medical statement stated that Pogba’s exam on Monday showed a low-grade lesion of the rectus femoris of the left thigh. The Frenchman is set to be sidelined for about 20 days. With Deschamps set to announce his squad on May 31, Pogba is not expected to win his race against time to be match fit again. The 2018 World Cup winner with France has not worn the blue jersey since March 29, 2022 in a friendly 5-0 win against South Africa.
