Petition calling for the departure of Lyon leadership trio reaches 2,500 signatures

According to Le Progrés, a frustrated Olympique Lyonnais supporter has started a petition on change.org calling for the departure of the club’s president Jean-Michel Aulas, Director of Football Vincent Ponsot, and Recruitment Manager Bruno Cheyrou. The petition had already garnered 2,500 signatures as of Saturday afternoon.

They believe that the club has lost its soul and has become the subject of ridicule in the football world. They blame club president Jean-Michel Aulas, Director of Football Vincent Ponsot, and Recruitment Manager Bruno Cheyrou for the club’s poor performance in recent years and are calling for them to take responsibility and step down.

“The club we fell in love with, the club that made us love football, the club that made us dream, the club that made us thrill, the club that made us cry, the club that made us tremble, the club that made us shiver: this club now makes us sad,” the creator of the petition writes, going on to say,  “This club frustrates us. This club no longer gives us any emotion. This club has simply lost its soul and is becoming the laughing stock of the football world.”

Lyon currently sit ninth in Ligue 1 following a season which has reset expectations at the football club. Earlier in the Autumn, Dutch manager Peter Bosz was fired following Lyon’s worst run in the top tier for 30 years and was replaced by veteran Laurent Blanc, who is yet to fully turn around results for Les Gones.

The club seem unable to hold onto young players such as Malo Gusto and Mateus Tetê, following the previous departures of Lucas Paquetá and Bruno Guimaraes in previous windows, which has compounded the woes of the club’s current performance in the league, without the hope of European football this season or next.
