PSG confirm Neymar is suffering from ankle sprain and ligament damage

In a medical announcement, Paris Saint-Germain have outlined the nature of Neymar’s recent ankle injury, explaining that further tests undertaken tomorrow have revealed an ankle sprain along with ligament damage.

Further tests are set to take place next week for the Brazilian, who in any case misses out on Sunday’s Classique fixture against Marseille. He remains a doubt for the Champions League last 16 second leg against Bayern Munich in two weeks’ time.

The 31-year-old sustained the injury in a clash during the team’s dramatic 4-3 win over Lille, coming off shortly after half-time having scored the hosts’ second of the afternoon. He also set away Kylian Mbappé early in the game for the Frenchman’s solo opener, taking his assist tally for the season to 11, more than anyone else in the league, on top of his 13 goals for the campaign. After an impressive start to the season, the former Barcelona man has been shackled by injury since the World Cup, having been sidelined with a lasting ankle injury that saw him undergo treatment as recently as last month.
