PSG loanee Julian Draxler out for Benfica until end of season

RMC Sport report tonight, via Portuguese outlet Record, that Julian Draxler’s season is over following an ankle injury. The German midfielder is currently on loan at Benfica from Paris Saint-Germain, where he will have made 18 appearances in all competitions, finding the net twice.

The 29-year-old, who has been with Paris Saint-Germain since joining from Wolfsburg midway through the 2016/17 season, made eight starts this campaign for the Lisbon-based outfit, only half of those coming in league action.

The Portuguese league leaders previously announced that the German international had successfully undergone an operation on his left ankle, but did not give any indication regarding the length of time he would be out for.

The World Cup winner, whose deal in the French capital expires at the end of next season, will nevertheless remain in Portugal during his recovery. His loan deal does not include a permanent option. Although he has made just short of 200 appearances for the Parisians, his playing time, and level of performances, had been dwindling in the last few years.
