PSG’s Neymar suffers ankle sprain

Neymar (31) suffered an ankle sprain during Paris Saint-Germain’s 4-3 victory against Lille OSC on Sunday, Christophe Galtier has announced.

The Brazilian international has struggled with ankle injuries in recent times. A similar injury threatened to rule him out of the recent World Cup in Qatar, but Neymar recovered quickly and competed in the competition. Another ankle injury also ruled him out of 12 PSG games last season.

Neymar suffered another blow against Lille after landing awkwardly on his right ankle after a fairly innocuous challenge. He left the pitch on a stretcher in tears.

Speaking to Amazon Prime Video Sport post-match, Galtier revealed that Neymar had suffered a sprained ankle. The PSG manager added that tests were ongoing in order to ascertain the severity of the sprain. The former Barcelona forward may be in a race against time to be fit for some key fixtures. Les Parisiens face Olympique de Marseille in Le Classique next weekend and the club’s Champions League return leg against Bayern Munich will take place on 8th March.
