RB Leipzig interested in Lille’s Jonathan David

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Red Bull Leipzig are one of many clubs showing an interest in Lille OSC striker Jonathan David (23).

According to the Italian journalist, the Canadian international is one of the Bundesliga club’s top targets due to his positional versatility. He can play a variety of offensive roles, including as a target man or as a second striker. However, any deal would potentially be difficult given the fee being touted.

David is strongly expected to leave Les Dogues at the end of the season, but he is enjoying arguably his most prolific season in France. He is currently the joint-top scorer in Ligue 1 with 15 goals, level with Stade de Reims’ Folarin Balogun and Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappé.

The Canadian international joined Lille from KAA Gent in August 2020 for a €27m fee, and has since won the Ligue 1 title with the club under the stewardship of now PSG manager Christophe Galtier. His current contract with Les Dogues runs until 2025, meaning that whilst a move is expected this summer, David won’t move on the cheap.
