According to L’Équipe Stade Rennais centre back Arthur Theate (23) will not be joining Bundesliga side Leipzig this summer. The German side were hoping to secure the services of the Belgian defender through a loan with a mandatory option to buy set at €30m.
The Ligue 1 side were looking at several options to replace Theate, whilst Liverpool and Fulham were previously believed to to be interested in the player. Tottenham centre back Davinson Sanchez has been targeted by the Rouge et Noir, with Bruno Genesio’s side even submitting a €9m offer for the Colombian defender.
Whilst Leipzig had been chasing intensely the signature of Theate, the Bundesliga club couldn’t secure the Belgian because of the loan structure of the deal, not able to sign the player with a straight permanent move.
