According to a report from RMC Sport, Bruno Genesio is seriously considering putting an end to his tenure as Rennes’ head coach. The former Lyon manager arrived in the Rennes dugout in 2021 following the resignation of Julien Stéphan. With Genesio at the helm, Rennes have improved and sometimes impressed with free-flowing football. Les Rouge et Noir have always qualified for European competition with Genesio as his manager.
However, this season seems to have taken its toll on Genesio. Rennes have fallen to 6th place and seen their results dwindle after the season-ending injury of free-scoring forward Martin Terrier. RMC report that Genesio is pondering whether he’ll continue as Rennes’ boss after the 2022-2023 season with weariness creeping in. The 56-year-old manager may reportedly call time on his coaching career. Genesio is tied with Rennes until 2025 after putting pen to paper over a contract with improved terms last summer.
The club have published a statement denying the RMC piece. “We are very surprised by the article published by RMC Sport, Bruno Genesio and Stade Rennais rigorously deny rumours of a departure. This outlet cannot call into question the serene climate at the club and the excellent relations between Bruno Genesio and the management of SRFC. Moreover, our coach – who extended last summer – has no intention of stopping his career at just 56. In the race for a sixth consecutive European qualification, the whole club is focused on their objective.” Rennes’ boss Genesio will pay a visit to his former club Lyon on Sunday for Ligue 1 gameweek 30.
