As pointed out by RMC Sport this morning, Real Sociedad defender Robin Le Normand has officially been naturalised a Spanish citizen, according to an officiadl decree, and will now be eligible to represent La Roja on the international stage.
The Breton centre-half has been with the Basque side since 2016, when he was 19, having been let go by his formative side Brest. He is now expected to be called up by Luis De La Fuente for the Nations League Final Four fixtures in June, with Spain first taking on Italy in the semi-finals.
The 26-year-old has never represented France at any international level. Like his fellow centre-back Aymeric Laporte, he has found favour on the other side of the Pyrenees, and the pair could be set to form a partnership at the back for Spain in the near future. With the San Sebastián-based outfit, he has made 176 appearances in all competitions, playing a key part in this year’s successful campaign that will likely send the team into the Champions League next season.
